A former light industrial unit in Hackney was renovated to house the new London headquarters for online music platform Mixcloud.
We worked closely with the client to develop a space to accommodate their growing workforce. The existing fabric was stripped back and exposed, with new meeting rooms and facilities formed from fairfaced grey blockwork. A suite of bespoke furniture was developed with a local metal worker, including a meeting / ping pong table and mobile bench seating.

The ground floor of a new build residential block in Camden was converted into a warehouse and showroom for a commercial fashion company.
McNeil Architects divided the space into three zones; showroom, design and fabrication areas. Meeting rooms and private offices separate the spaces.
The public facing areas were defined by a linear timber ceiling with integrated lighting and glazed partitions. The workshop areas had a detailed technical ceiling with exposed services, robust deep skirtings and door reveals.

The competition invited participants to design an original out-building to be used by creative practitioners working with Hauser & Wirth Somerset as part of the gallery's residency programme.
Our proposal re-imagined the previous shed, using the existing volume and materials commonly used in agricultural buildings, in a refined way. The new building retained a link to the past, celebrating the spirit of the shed.
Differences in the self finished materials are replicated within the interior space to create clearly defined zones for working, contemplating with defined views and exhibiting or reviewing work.
McNeil Architects were amongst seven shortlisted practices for the competition out of over 300 entries. The jury included artist and former professor of sculpture at the Royal College of Art, Richard Wentworth; writer and collector, Niall Hobhouse; journalist, critic and curator, Justin McGuirk and graphic designer and design consultant, John McConnell and Edward Workman, Director of Global Property, Hauser & Wirth.
McNeil Architects were appointed by Émigré Studios to develop a proposal to activate a redundant terrace above their studio complex close to London Fields and Broadway Market.
Working in close collaboration with a joinery company, we adapted a standard 6x4 foot garden shed into dining booths and created a bespoke solution for the bar and kitchen. External surfaces were finished in a dark stain with integrated internal seating.

McNeil Architects were engaged by the owners of a large period house in Catford to develop proposals to extend the rear in to the lower ground floor garden.
The resulting proposal was achieved by working within the parameters of permitted development to create a simple brick extension with metal framed windows and a large open plan kitchen. The existing spaces were replanned to provide a small utility space that mediated the transition from the old to the new with a small staircase.
